Ranging from local bands playing at the bar down the street to multi-platinum selling artists, Nebraska has its share of musical success. Checking out and supporting local music helps artists reach bigger audiences. Here are some of the best music artists from the Cornhusker State. Do you recognize any of the local talent?



  • “All Mixed Up” // 311 (Omaha)
    • The most commercially successful band from Nebraska, 311 has sold over 8.5 million records and appeared on mainstream radio in the 1990s.
  • “You’re Not You” // The Good Life (Omaha)
    • Named after Nebraska’s state slogan, The Good Life is fronted by Tim Kasher. Kasher also fronted Omaha bands Cursive and Commander Venus.
  • “The Recluse” // Cursive (Omaha)
  • “Heat Lightning” // Icky Blossoms (Omaha)
  • “Alligator Years” // Twinsmith (Omaha)
  • “You Are Your Mother’s Child” // Conor Oberst (Omaha)
    • Involved with a number of indie, folk and emo bands, Oberst is mostly known as the frontman for Bright Eyes. Rolling Stone named Oberst Best Songwriter of 2008.
  • “At the Bottom of Everything” // Bright Eyes (Omaha)
    • The band’s 2005 album “I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning” was ranked 50th in Rolling Stone’s “Top 100 Albums of the Decade.”
  • “Doesn’t Make Sense (feat. Zay Gaines)” // Sammy Wilk (Omaha)
    • Wilk has collaborated with Omaha internet stars/rappers Jack & Jack while Gaines opened up for T-Pain at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in 2016.
  • “The Left is Right” // Desaparecidos (Omaha)
  • “Pot Kettle Black” // Tilly and the Wall (Omaha)
    • The indie pop group appeared on “Sesame Street.” Their songs were featured in commercials for Jaguar, Nyquil and T-Mobile.
  • “Girlfriend” // Straight Outta Junior High (Lincoln)
    • The Lincoln pop punk band won the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands in 2003, being awarded $10,000 in gear and a spot on the Vans Warped Tour.
