Husker Saber Academy Presents: Lightsaber Training
This “Star Wars” themed workshop dedicated to the art of lightsaber wielding brought about 50 participants with an additional one hundred observers. Opening with a choreographed skit on stage, convention attendees watched in awe as the workshop leaders battled one another with the iconic sci-fi weapon. Workshop participants were taught stances and swings that would help them be effective in battle. Pairings of the stances and swings were named after things from the “Star Wars” universe, such as “Tie Fighter,” “Windu” and “Force.” Plenty of people brought their own lightsabers, but pool noodles were available as a substitute for those without one.
The Jedi academy training was reminiscent of a martial arts dojo and the attendees had a fun time as they learned to fight like Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Watching workshop attendees improve their fighting skills within an hour was a fun sight, especially those in non “Star Wars” cosplay. These newfound fighting skills can be used to either bring balance to The Force or take over the galaxy with help of The Dark Side.
